Sworn in – Lennoxville Councillors take oath at city hall William Crooks

Three Lennoxville representatives officially took their oaths of office Wednesday evening during Sherbrooke’s municipal swearing-in ceremony at City Hall, marking the start of the 2025–2029 mandate.

The evening began with a welcome from Alexandra Lapierre of the City’s communications department, who described the event as “a significant moment in Sherbrooke’s democratic life.” One by one, the newly elected councillors were called to the front to swear an oath to serve with honesty and justice, in accordance with the law and the municipal code of ethics. After signing the official registry, each received a councillor’s pin and shook hands with Mayor Marie-Claude Bibeau.

Among those sworn in were Lennoxville’s three representatives: Bert Collins, returning to council as Borough President; Claude Charron, back as councillor for the Uplands District after several years as borough president; and Frank Gilbert, newly elected in the Fairview District.

When Collins’ name was called, applause filled the chamber. Speaking in French, he pledged to fulfil his duties “with honesty and justice, respecting the law and the code of ethics of the elected officials of the City of Sherbrooke.” He then signed the city’s register before greeting Mayor Bibeau.

The event, attended by families, city staff, and residents, concluded with a reception in the Hall of Honour. The three Lennoxville officials now begin their new terms together under Sherbrooke’s new mayoral administration, with teamwork and community service as their shared priorities.
