Sherbrooke, January 18, 2025 The City of Sherbrooke will launch a general snow removal operation starting at 9 PM on Sunday, January 19, continuing for five consecutive nights.
Purpose of the Operation
Following heavy snowfall, the width of roadways has been reduced, creating the need to clear snow from street edges, especially:
- Roads with sidewalks.
- Cul-de-sacs.
- Streets where lanes are less than three meters wide.
Snow removal will focus on streets with maintained sidewalks. Non-maintained sidewalks will remain closed due to excessive snow buildup.
Snow Blowing vs. Hauling
Where possible, snow will be blown onto nearby properties rather than hauled away by trucks. This method:
- Reduces costs by requiring fewer personnel.
- Lowers greenhouse gas emissions with fewer vehicle trips.
- Conserves space in snow storage areas.
Community Cooperation Essential
Residents are reminded to:
- Respect the overnight street parking ban, which greatly aids the snow removal teams.
- Place garbage and recycling bins at the curb on collection mornings and remove them promptly after pickup.
