Coalition Avenir Québec candidate Guillaume Rousseau outlines CAQ priorities for Richmond ahead of October 5th election

RICHMOND, September 18th  – Coalition avenir Québec candidate Guillaume Rousseau says his background as a lawyer and professor of law has helped shape his approach to the provincial campaign in Richmond.

In an interview with Good Morning Townships, Rousseau discussed his previous political experience, including his 2018 campaign as a Parti québécois candidate in Sherbrooke. He said his views have since evolved toward greater autonomy for Quebec within Canada, rather than independence. His candidacy for the CAQ in Richmond was confirmed in June.

Rousseau said U.S. tariffs have increased the importance of helping Quebec businesses develop markets elsewhere in Canada, while also expanding opportunities in Europe and Asia.

On healthcare, he highlighted attracting physicians to smaller communities and placing greater emphasis on CLSCs and proximity services.

Rousseau also addressed community media funding. He said the CAQ’s position is to maintain the existing four-percent government advertising target for community media, while personally remaining open to increasing the share, although he did not commit to the 12 percent requested by community media organizations. The four-percent policy has been in place since 1995.

He identified the economy and seniors as priorities for Richmond, including additional affordable housing for seniors.
