Lennoxville councillors push back after ‘Mon Lennox’ branding switch William Crooks
Lennoxville’s borough councillors are pushing back after discovering that the long-standing “Explore Lennox” branding has been replaced by a new city-created label, “Mon Lennox,” without any consultation.
In this radio segment, The Pulse of the Eastern Townships speaks with Borough President Bert Collins, Uplands Councillor Claude Charron, and Fairview Councillor Frank Gilbert in Lennoxville’s council room about how the change surfaced and why it has sparked concern across the community.
The councillors say they were blindsided when a former borough councillor raised the issue at a recent meeting. Collins brought the matter directly to Sherbrooke Mayor Marie-Claude Bibeau, who has since committed to reviewing how the decision was made and to speaking with the officials responsible. The councillors argue that the move not only disregards local input but also continues a pattern of decisions that they feel erode Lennoxville’s bilingual identity.
Charron and Gilbert both link the reaction to broader concerns about the borough’s status and recent city-led initiatives they believe have overlooked the community’s needs. They note that Explore Lennox was created locally through the business community and is widely recognized, while Mon Lennox was imposed from above.
Since the interview was recorded, a development has occurred: the City of Sherbrooke has agreed to meet with the councillors to discuss the issue directly in the coming days. The officials say they intend to advocate for the reinstatement of the original branding and for more meaningful consultation in future decisions.
This segment offers a detailed look at the concerns, history, and next steps surrounding the branding dispute.
