Sherbrooke, September 16, 2025 – Firefighters and police were called to a blaze at Chez Stanley, a well-known resto-bar located at 1180 King East, early Tuesday morning around 1:30 a.m.

According to the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS), a citizen called 911 to report the fire. Fire crews quickly arrived and were able to bring the flames under control. Fortunately, no one was injured.

However, based on information gathered at the scene, investigators believe the fire may have been of suspicious origin. The area is currently secured by police. An investigator and a forensic technician are expected to conduct a detailed examination of the scene during the day.

The incident has left the owner, Luc Laplante, and his team of around 40 employees facing significant challenges. The kitchen suffered heavy damage, with overall losses estimated at about $750,000. Despite the setback, Laplante said he was touched by the outpouring of support from the Sherbrooke community and is determined to rebuild and reopen the Stanley as soon as possible.

“My phone ran out of battery by noon from all the calls. The community’s support is incredible,” Laplante said, adding that his biggest concern is for his employees.

The Sherbrooke Police Service continues to investigate. Anyone with information related to the fire is encouraged to contact them directly.
