Sherbrooke, February 4, 2025 – After 18 years of providing free public WiFi across the Estrie region, ZAP Sherbrooke, a non-profit organization, has officially announced its closure.

During a special meeting on January 27, 2025, members of the organization voted to cease operations, with the public WiFi service ending on May 30, 2025 and the official closure of the organization set for June 30, 2025.

Impact on Users & Partners

While ZAP Sherbrooke’s network will be discontinued, major institutional partners such as the City of Sherbrooke, CIUSSS de l’Estrie, and Bishop’s University will continue to provide their own public WiFi services, ensuring some level of continuity for users.

However, businesses and organizations that relied on ZAP Sherbrooke will need to make alternative arrangements to maintain WiFi access for their customers and visitors.

The end of ZAP Sherbrooke marks the conclusion of an era in community-driven digital accessibility in Estrie.
