Sherbrooke is experiencing an unexpected delay in the removal of summer installations from Wellington North and Frontenac Streets. Originally scheduled for the week of September 2, 2024, the project’s timeline has been adjusted due to unforeseen complications.
The streets will undergo a series of changes starting on Monday, September 2 at 6 PM. The full closure of Wellington North and the section of Frontenac Street between Palais and Wellington North will last until Tuesday, September 3 at 5 PM, and again from Wednesday, September 4 at noon.
Traffic restrictions will continue with one-way traffic only from Tuesday, September 3 at 5 PM until Wednesday, September 4 at 5 PM, and from Wednesday, September 4 at noon to Thursday, September 5 at 7:15 AM. Full two-way traffic is expected to resume by Thursday morning.
During this period, access to the Webster and La Grenouillère parking lots will be rerouted via Grandes-Fourches Nord. Drivers are advised to follow detours through King West, Belvédère Nord, and Frontenac, or via Dufferin, Abénaquis, and Grandes-Fourches Nord. Pedestrians and cyclists must use sidewalks, with cyclists required to dismount when using the sidewalks.
Despite the construction, local businesses will remain open, and some components of the summer installations will be stored for future use. To mitigate traffic disruptions, motorists are encouraged to plan their routes in advance, register for MonSherbrooke notifications for updates, consult the interactive map for real-time information, and use GPS apps to explore alternative routes.
The city advises patience as the adjustments are made and thanks residents for their understanding during this period of transition.
