Windsor, February 22, 2025 – For nearly 60 years, the J.A. Lemay Center in Windsor, Quebec has been more than just an arena—it has been the heart of the community. From hockey tournaments and figure skating to even pickleball in the summer, this rink has hosted countless memories for generations. But now, it needs urgent renovations to continue serving Windsor’s athletes and families.

To secure much-needed funding, Windsor has entered the Kraft Hockeyville Canada competition, hoping to win the $250,000 grand prize.

“Our primary goal is to get our hands on the $250,000 because there is a lot of work to be done on this infrastructure,” explains David Maurice, project manager and communication advisor for the City of Windsor. “That’s why we’re mobilizing the community to take part in this incredible opportunity.”

The GLM Center’s roof needs repairs, the locker rooms need upgrades, and plumbing improvements are essential. With government grants becoming harder to secure, this competition is a lifeline for Windsor’s arena.

Beyond the funding, winning would also bring an NHL preseason game to Windsor, an event that would be historic for the town.

“It will be a memorable experience, especially since next year marks Windsor’s 150th anniversary,” says Maurice.

Windsor needs community support to win. Locals can vote on the Kraft Hockeyville website, share stories, and spread the word. Every vote counts in keeping the GLM Center alive for generations to come.
