Sherbrooke, September 25 2024 – Sherbrooke police are on the lookout for 38-year-old Jean-François Leclerc, following a multi-vehicle hit-and-run that occurred on the evening of September 17 at the intersection of King West and Jacques Cartier.
Leclerc was initially spotted driving with his headlights off. Upon noticing police, he accelerated, committed several traffic violations, and fled. A short time later, Leclerc’s vehicle collided with multiple others. While police arrived to assist the victims, Leclerc escaped once more at high speed. Three vehicles were involved in the crash, with minor injuries reported, and one person was hospitalized.
Authorities have linked Leclerc to other recent dangerous driving incidents. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and the public is urged to provide any information about his whereabouts to Sherbrooke Police at 819-821-5555 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-711-1800.
Update: Sherbrooke, September 26, 2024 – The police department confirms that the wanted individual contacted investigators by phone following the media coverage of the search notice.
Mr. Jean-François Leclerc turned himself in at the police station today around noon. He will be interviewed by the criminal investigation division later this afternoon and will appear in court afterward.
At this time, the crashed vehicle has still not been located.
