Sherbrooke, December 23, 2024 – Four drivers were arrested for impaired driving over the weekend in Sherbrooke. Below is a summary of the incidents:
Friday Night, 10:45 PM: A police officer on routine patrol came across a minor collision near 3155 Portland Boulevard. Upon investigation, one of the two drivers involved was found to be intoxicated. The 42-year-old man failed a breathalyzer test and was arrested for impaired driving. He was transported to the police station for further testing by a qualified technician. Released later, the man had blown over twice the legal alcohol limit and will face court at a later date.
Saturday Evening, 8:00 PM: Two motorists reported a car rollover near 3150 Saint-Roch Road. Witnesses stated the vehicle had flipped over, and the driver appeared uninjured but intoxicated. Officers arrested the 35-year-old man for impaired driving. After testing positive for alcohol levels above the legal limit, he was released with a summons to appear in court.
Saturday Night into Sunday Morning, 1:20 AM: Multiple calls were made to police about a vehicle that struck a lamppost at the intersection of King Ouest Street and Jacques-Cartier South Boulevard. Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, responded to the scene. While no injuries were reported, the 20-year-old female driver was found to be intoxicated. She failed the breathalyzer test, blowing twice the legal limit, and was released pending a court appearance.
Sunday Morning, 6:30 AM: A witness reported a vehicle stuck on a median at the intersection of Dunant and Kingston Streets. Police located the suspect vehicle at 1600 Rue des Boisés. The 34-year-old male driver, who had vomited in his car, was arrested for impaired driving. He also failed the breathalyzer test and was released, pending criminal court proceedings.
Police Reminder: All drivers involved had their licenses suspended and vehicles seized. Police emphasize that the national impaired driving campaign is ongoing. Increased patrols and checks will continue to target drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
