Sherbrooke, July 9, 2025 – The Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) arrested two individuals early this morning for driving under the influence of alcohol in separate incidents.

First Arrest – Erratic Driving on King Street
Around 3:00 a.m., officers observed a vehicle driving erratically on King Ouest, near Belvédère Sud. The vehicle was intercepted at the Galt Ouest and Belvédère Sud intersection. A breathalyzer test revealed the 40-year-old male driver had more than twice the legal alcohol limit. He was arrested and released with a promise to appear in court at a later date.

Second Arrest – Collision with Storefront
An hour later, around 4:00 a.m., a witness reported a van crashing into the window of a business at 1432 King Ouest. The driver attempted to flee but was stopped by the witness and detained until police arrived. Officers confirmed the 19-year-old suspect was intoxicated—again, nearly twice the legal limit. He was also arrested and later released pending a court appearance. Both drivers had their licenses suspended and vehicles seized.

Police Reminder – Don’t Drink and Drive
The SPS urges residents to plan ahead and make safe choices, especially during the summer when alcohol-related events are more frequent. Designate a driver, call a taxi, or arrange for nearby accommodations to avoid impaired driving.

The public is encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by noting license plates and behaviors so officers can intervene.

Summer DUI Arrest Stats (June 15 – Sept 15):
2022: 44 arrests

2023: 45 arrests

2024: 66 arrests

2025: 14 arrests (as of July 9)

The average for the summer period remains around 60 cases per year, with 2022 and 2023 being the lowest in the last decade.
