SHERBROOKE, April 21, 2026 – Residents in the sector of Clément Street had a rude awakening in the early hours of Tuesday morning as emergency crews rushed to battle a structure fire.
The Service de police de Sherbrooke (SPS) reports that multiple 911 calls came in around 12:15 AM, alerting authorities to a fire starting at 511 Clément Street. Both firefighters and police officers were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Upon arrival, the Sherbrooke Fire Department acted quickly to contain the blaze, successfully bringing the flames under control before they could spread further. While the physical damage is still being assessed, the human cost was thankfully minimal; all occupants of the residence were safely evacuated, and no injuries have been reported.
However, the case took a turn during the initial on-site sweep. Police spokesperson Martin Carrier confirmed that evidence gathered at the scene has led officials to treat the fire as suspicious.
The property remains cordoned off this morning as patrol officers protect the site. Later today, a specialized investigator along with a forensic identification technician will conduct a thorough walkthrough to pinpoint the exact cause of the ignition.
The SPS is asking anyone who may have seen unusual activity in the area around midnight to contact them.
