Sherbrooke, Septemeber 26, 2024 – The CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS will hold its first Foster Families and Care Residences Fair for the Estrie region.

In response to the growing need for foster families and care residences, the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS is innovating by organizing the first event of its kind in Quebec. The goal? To promote the recruitment of new resources by demystifying misconceptions, answering questions, and guiding people through the process.

The event is free and will take place at the Cultural Center of the University of Sherbrooke on October 19. It is open to anyone interested in becoming a foster family or care residence.

The fair is organized in close collaboration with the Association démocratique des ressources à l’enfance du Québec (ADREQ) and the Association démocratique des ressources à l’adulte du Québec (ADRAQ). It is made possible by the Foundation of the Centre jeunesse de l’Estrie and its donors, who support the initiative.

Nearly 50 booths on-site:

Recruitment team;
Health and social services professionals;
Presentations on various types of family resources (adoption, specialized care, etc.);
Community organizations and local businesses that collaborate with foster families, care residences, and the individuals they host;
Foster families and care residences sharing their experiences.
Two conferences will also be offered!
Limited spaces: First come, first served!

“How come it’s impossible?”
Based on his personal journey, Gino Chouinard, father of two adopted children, will talk about the importance of determination and perseverance. These qualities help develop resilience, especially when facing challenges as a foster family or care residence.

Letting Go and Recognition
With a background in psychology, speaker Denis Carignan will discuss how to recognize our strengths and values, which are essential foundations for becoming a foster family or care residence.

It’s worth noting that a foster family provides a home for children aged 0 to 17, while a care residence is intended for adult clients. Both types of accommodation are for individuals with specific needs and require specialized support.
