Patterson outlines priorities as Brome Lake’s new mayor William Crooks

Brome Lake’s newly elected mayor Lee Patterson says his focus is on continuity, infrastructure and better communication with residents as he steps into the role following the Nov. 2 municipal election.

Patterson, a lifelong resident and a member of council for twelve years, won in a multi-candidate race that saw voter turnout just over fifty-three per cent. Speaking in a phone interview less than seventy-two hours after the results were confirmed, Patterson said the celebration ended quickly once the reality of the workload set in.

He said residents can expect council to move immediately into budget preparation early in the new year. With several new councillors joining the table, Patterson noted there will be a learning curve, but half the council has previous municipal experience, which he believes will help keep momentum.

Infrastructure and lake protection remain top priorities. Patterson said continued investment in water and sewer systems, dirt road maintenance and community facilities is essential. He also confirmed that the new firehall project has secured provincial funding, and land acquisition for the site is underway, with construction targeted to begin in 2027.

Updating the town’s urban plan is another key task. Patterson wants clearer and stricter development and land-use rules to maintain Brome Lake’s character and protect the environment. He also intends to improve how residents receive information from town hall, adding digital notifications when zoning changes or planning requests affect specific neighbourhoods.

Patterson said he is ready to get to work. “The time for celebration is past,” he told CJMQ. “Now it is time to get started.”
