October 9, 2025 From October 10 to 16, 2025, all police services across Quebec, in partnership with Contrôle routier Québec and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), will carry out a coordinated national operation targeting driver distraction and reckless behavior. Motorists can expect an increased police presence province-wide, including in the Eastern Townships.
Special attention will also be given to heavy vehicles, with several inspection operations scheduled for Friday, October 10.
Alongside roadside enforcement, the SAAQ continues its public awareness campaign titled “Bien se conduire sur la route, c’est juste la base” (“Driving safely—it’s just basic”).
Short videos will appear on TikTok through December 28, reminding young drivers to follow the Highway Safety Code and adopt safer habits behind the wheel.
Another campaign, “La sécurité routière, j’embarque”, featuring comedian Katherine Levac, encourages drivers to adjust their driving in residential areas and to avoid distractions.
Police will focus on the following high-risk behaviors:
Failure to obey road signs and signals (stop signs, red lights, school bus signals, right-of-way rules);
Reckless actions, including unsafe maneuvers and illegal passing;
Following too closely;
Driver distraction, especially cell phone use while driving.
These behaviors are among the leading causes of collisions in Quebec.
According to SAAQ data:
57% of crashes occur in urban or school zones.
65% occur at intersections.
This operation is a joint effort involving:
The Quebec Association of Police Chiefs (ADPQ)
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ)
The Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL)
Contrôle routier Québec
And the SAAQ
