SHERBROOKE, October 30th, 2026 – TransEstrie, an organization supporting transgender and non-binary individuals across the Eastern Townships is now facing challenges as it works to restore it’s services after funding shortages have forced them to downsize their operational and administrational procedures.

Executive Director of the organization, Roxanne Paquin-Saïkali, explained that most direct services, such as support groups and individual follow-ups, are currently suspended due to limited staffing and core mission funding, with hopes that services will gradually resume around April 2027 as the organization secures more funding and rebuilds the team.

Despite these challenges that the organization is confronted with, TransEstrie continues distributing informational guides through community partners and maintains supporting their online resources as they continue to operate under these conditions.

Paquin-Saïkali reiterates that the current existing team is constantly working progressively to secure funding, and no administrative procedures are stalled as they continue to push for these objectives.

Future priorities on the team’s mind also include restoration of support groups, creating safe spaces for younger individuals and developing activities to reduce social isolation among transgender and non-binary adults, and incentivizes good actors to assist individuals currently in the process of transitioning to stay close and support them if they are currently limited to the resources provided to them during this time.

Meanwhile, community members have already acted. Paquin-Saïkali mentions that community members have continued to support one another through personal connections and practical assistance, and continues to encourage them to do so.

Listeners and readers alike, interested in supporting TransEstrie, can access information through its website and Facebook page. Volunteer opportunities are also expected once the organization establishes the necessary structure to coordinate with community involvement.
