Snowmobile Trails in Eastern Townships Hopeful to Open Soon

Sherbrooke, January 8, 2025 – The snowy trails of the Eastern Townships are more than just paths; they’re a winter wonderland connecting snowmobilers to the beauty and thrill of the outdoors. In our latest episode of Reaching Out to the Community on CJMQ 88.9FM, Gary Lynch, a director of the Club de Motoneige Harfang de l’Estrie in Sherbrooke, shared the incredible efforts behind maintaining these trails and the imminent opening of the trails in the Eastern Townships soon.

As a nonprofit organization, the club relies on its 700 members and 30 hardworking volunteers to sustain 160 kilometers of trails stretching across Lennoxville, Rock Forest, and beyond. Snowmobilers gain access to over 30,000 kilometers of interconnected provincial trails, thanks to their collaboration with the Quebec Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (FCMQ).

Lynch highlighted the challenges of a difficult season, including a 30% drop in memberships and costly trail improvements. Despite this, preparations for the upcoming season are underway, with cold weather and snowfall creating a solid base. Volunteers continue to play a vital role, from clearing brush to negotiating trail access with property owners.
