Man Arrested for Phone Fraud in Sherbrooke

Sherbrooke, November 27, 2024 – A 27-year-old Montreal man was arrested for fraud yesterday evening after attempting to purchase and activate four iPhone 16s valued at $7,000 using fake identification at a cellphone store on King Street East.

Details of the Incident

Around 5 p.m., a store employee contacted Sherbrooke police, reporting suspicious activity during the transaction. Officers arrived on-site and apprehended the suspect as he attempted to finalize the purchase. Upon inspection, the man was found in possession of counterfeit identification and was arrested for fraud.

The suspect is currently in custody and faces charges including fraud, possession of fake documents, identity theft, and the creation of counterfeit identification. He is expected to appear in court later today.

Accomplice Also Arrested

A 28-year-old accomplice, also from Montreal, was arrested in the parking lot while waiting for the suspect. He was found with fake driver’s licenses, SIM cards, and credit cards. He was released with a promise to appear in court.

Sherbrooke police continue their investigation into the case.
