Eastern Townships Food Technology Featured in Artemis II Mission Joshua Bullard
SHERBROOKE, May 12th, 2026 — As Quebec’s political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the October 5th provincial election, Pierre Cossette says he hopes to bring a more collaborative and innovation-focused approach to politics in Quebec City, while positioning Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships as a model for regional development and community-driven solutions.
The former physician and former rector of the Université de Sherbrooke officially entered provincial politics after decades working in healthcare, higher education, and institutional leadership throughout Quebec. Cossette says his campaign will focus on practical issues including healthcare access, housing, climate adaptation, and economic development, while encouraging greater collaboration between institutions, governments, and local communities.
Throughout the discussion, Cossette emphasized what he describes as the Eastern Townships’ unique culture of partnership and innovation. He pointed to the region’s strengths in healthcare research, education, technology, and environmental initiatives, arguing that Sherbrooke could serve as an example for the rest of the province.
Cossette also addressed Quebec’s ongoing identity debate, saying he believes the province’s future depends on recognizing the contributions of anglophone communities, newcomers, Indigenous peoples, and regional institutions alongside French-speaking Quebecers.
