Sherbrooke, Thursday, April 9, 2026 – As Quebec marks the 30th anniversary of the Réseau des fermiers de famille (RFF), local producers in the Estrie are highlighting the success of the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model. In a recent interview on CJMQ 88.9 FM, local farmer Leon Bibeau sat down with host Joshua Bullard to discuss how the network is helping mid-sized farms thrive by bypassing traditional wholesale markets.

The CSA model allows consumers to purchase a “share” of the harvest in advance. According to Bibeau, this provides farmers with essential upfront capital during the high-expense spring season and offers consumers price stability regardless of market volatility. “It’s a way to operate at a human size and build back relationships,” Bibeau noted, emphasizing that the direct feedback from families significantly improves farmers’ mental health.

Solidarity is a core pillar of the network, which includes 115 organic farms. In the Estrie, sixteen farms collaborate on projects like collective winter baskets to reach larger markets. To maintain the “Family Farmer” label, members must meet strict standards, including growing at least 75% of their own produce and adhering to rigorous organic certification. Residents looking to support local agriculture for the 2026 season can find nearby farms at fermierdefamille.com.
