Sherbrooke, August 22, 2024 – The cit

y of Sherbrooke has officially opened its latest aquatic facility, the À-la-Claire-Fontaine pool, located in Parc Victoria. Th

is modern pool is one of the largest in Sherbrooke, boasting cutting-edge

amenities designed for accessibility and inclusivity. The project,

entirely funded by the city, cost $9.2 million.

Key Features of the Facility:

  • Heated Pool: With a maximum depth of 1.4 meters.
  • Swimming Lanes: Three 25-meter lanes available from 10:30 AM to noon and 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
  • Family-Friendly Area: A shallow zone with a beach entry, perfect for families and those with reduced mobility.
  • Largest Splash Pad in Town: Featuring new water play modules.
  • Complimentary Equipment Rentals: Including life vests, floating structures, nets, and various games.
  • Relaxation Areas: Equipped with lounge chairs, tables, and shaded zones.
  • New Service Building: Featuring changing rooms, lockers, restrooms, showers, and an infirmary.
  • Art Integration: The 1962 mural by sculptor Yves Trudeau, previously on the old pool’s facade, has been restored and incorporated into the new design, complete with an interpretive panel.

Advancements in Universal Accessibility: In collaboration with Promotion Handicap Estrie and the Conseil Sport Loisir de l’Estrie, the pool has been designed to enhance accessibility for people with disabilities or reduced mobility. The facility includes a lift, specialized wheelchair, accessible toilets, changing cabins, and adult changing tables. Additionally, it features Sherbrooke’s first universal changing room, aligning with the national trend towards more inclusive public infrastructure.

Operational Hours and Activities: The pool is open daily from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM until September 22, depending on weather and staff availability. Swim lessons for children and parent-child sessions, fully booked until September 22, will be offered. Starting in 2025, a full schedule of swimming and lifesaving courses, as well as other aquatic activities, will be available.
