Sherbrooke, August 19, 2025 -The evening of August 19 was a busy one for the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS), as officers made three separate arrests involving armed assaults and drug possession across the city.
Bear Spray Assault at Parc du Petit-Canada
Around 6 p.m., officers were called to Parc du Petit-Canada, near Alexandre Street, after a woman was allegedly assaulted with bear spray. The 29-year-old suspect was arrested on site.
During her arrest, police discovered methamphetamines, hashish, a scale, and two cell phones in her belongings. She may face charges of armed assault, possession of narcotics for trafficking, and probation violations. The victim sustained minor injuries.
Assault with a Screwdriver on Papineau Street
At about 7 p.m., police responded to another incident in a Papineau Street apartment, where a 31-year-old woman allegedly attacked another woman with a screwdriver after finding her with her partner.
The victim suffered minor injuries, while the suspect was arrested and later released on a promise to appear in court. The investigation remains ongoing.
Drug and Weapon Seizure on Larocque Street
Later that evening, around 9:30 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Larocque Street to verify the driver’s license. A search uncovered an air-compressed firearm, three bags of crack, twelve bags of cocaine, $1,305 in cash, and two cell phones.
The 20-year-old man was arrested for drug possession and faces charges including possession of a prohibited firearm, negligent storage of a firearm, and possession of narcotics for trafficking. The seized weapon has been sent for analysis, and further charges may follow.
