Sherbrooke, August 22, 2024 – Last Tuesday, the Criminal Investigations Division arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a series of locker thefts that occurred between July 4 and August 13, 2024. The suspect was apprehended directly at the detention center, where he was already being held for another case involving a breach of conditions that occurred on Sunday, August 18.

The young man entered the locker room of a sports center and took personal belongings from unlocked lockers. After the thefts, the suspect used the stolen bank cards to make purchases at various stores. In addition to nine theft charges, he faces charges of fraud and multiple breaches of conditions. The suspect, who is well-known to our department, will appear in court today in connection with some of the incidents.

Prevention Tips:

With the return of extracurricular and sports activities in the coming weeks, we remind the public of the importance of securing your personal belongings and valuables during activities in public places. Lock your locker or the common space (such as a locker room in an arena) during team sports. Bring as few valuable items as possible to the activity. Additionally, report any suspicious individuals in the area to the on-site security service.
