HATLEY, June 29th 2026 — Thousands of visitors gathered in Hatley on Monday as one of the Eastern Townships’ longest-running community traditions returned for its 116th Canada Day celebration.

The annual event featured a parade, children’s activities, artisan vendors, live music, fireworks, and community fundraising, drawing families from across the region to the village’s historic centre.

Event coordinator Shelby Drew said the celebration has remained a family tradition for generations. After the COVID-19 pandemic left the organizing committee with only a handful of volunteers, Drew and several family members stepped in to ensure the event would continue.

Beyond the festivities, dozens of local businesses, artists, and community organizations used the celebration to connect with residents. Vendors showcased handmade crafts, artwork, local food, and new business ventures, while volunteer groups raised money for community initiatives and heritage projects.

Many attendees described the event as an annual reunion, bringing together families, neighbours, and former residents who return to Hatley each summer. Organizers say keeping the celebration free has helped preserve its welcoming atmosphere while encouraging community participation.

Those interested in learning more about future celebrations and volunteer opportunities can visit the Hatley Canada Day Facebook page for updates and event information.
