SHERBROOKE, June 29, 2026 — With Quebec’s traditional Moving Day right around the corner, the City of Sherbrooke is issuing several crucial reminders to ensure a smooth, eco-responsible, and hassle-free transition for both new and relocating residents.
From waste management to construction zones, here is what you need to plan before July 1st.
1. Bulky Item Pickup is by Request Only
One of the most common sights during moving season is old furniture and appliances left out on the curb. The city reminds residents that bulky item collection is no longer automatic; it is strictly by request.
To have large items picked up, citizens must fill out an online form on the city’s portal to schedule an appointment, specify the types of materials to be collected, and review local guidelines.
2. Cardboard Recycling and Waste Sorting
A dedicated, city-wide cardboard collection takes place once a year specifically to help movers dispose of boxes. Residents should check the municipal collection calendar online to find the exact date tied to their specific civic address.
Furthermore, Sherbrooke is urging the population to adopt sustainable habits. Instead of throwing everything into the trash, movers are encouraged to sort through their belongings, repair what is broken, and donate reusable items to local organizations to reduce unnecessary waste.
3. Official Address Changes
Don’t forget to update your files. New and moving residents need to submit their change of address as soon as possible to essential services, including:
Hydro-Sherbrooke
The City of Sherbrooke (for property tax accounts)
SPA de l’Estrie (for pet licensing, if applicable)
The city also highly recommends setting up a mail redirection service with Canada Post to avoid lost mail and potential administrative headaches.
4. Navigating Construction Zones
Before renting a moving truck or loading up your vehicle, citizens are advised to consult Sherbrooke’s Info-travaux web page to check if their new street is currently an active construction site.
If your new address falls within a work zone, the city requests that you contact them directly ahead of time so municipal teams can help coordinate your arrival and access to the property.
Welcome to the Community!
If you are completely new to the area, the city warmly invites you to visit the local Bureau d’accueil touristique et citoyen (Tourist and Citizen Welcome Bureau) to discover the region’s hidden gems and settle into your new home.
