Sherbrooke, July 2025 – In recognition of National Drowning Prevention Week, the City of Sherbrooke is promoting the theme “Staying Safe Together” by reminding the public of the importance of adopting safe and respectful behavior around pools, lakes, and other bodies of water.

Sherbrooke is proud to have a team of 85 lifeguards overseeing the city’s pools and beaches daily. While their presence is critical, the cooperation of the public is equally vital to ensure everyone’s safety in and around swimming areas.

Top Water Safety Tips for Public Pools and Beaches:
Always follow the lifeguard’s instructions.

Avoid running, pushing, or rough play near water.

Check water depth before entering and swim only in areas suited to your skill level.

Refrain from using cell phones near water.

Children aged 7 and under must always be accompanied by an adult in the water.

Wear proper swimwear.

Do not dive from pool ladders or stairs.

Never swim when the pool or beach is closed.

Taking swimming lessons is one of the best ways to prevent drowning. Residents can register for swim classes at Sherbrooke’s outdoor pools.
