RICHMOND, September 18th – Quebec Liberal Party candidate Hugo Fontaine says supporting local businesses, improving healthcare access and addressing housing are among his priorities for the Richmond riding.
In an interview with Good Morning Townships, Fontaine drew on his background as an economic journalist and former general manager of La Tribune, saying his experience working with businesses and community organizations influenced his decision to enter provincial politics.
On the economy, Fontaine said the region’s manufacturing sector is particularly exposed to the ongoing tariff dispute with the United States. He called for financial assistance that would not rely exclusively on additional loans and highlighted workforce shortages as another challenge facing local businesses.
Fontaine also discussed agriculture, pointing to the Quebec Liberal Party’s proposed $560-million agricultural plan, including measures aimed at helping a new generation of farmers.
On healthcare, he highlighted a proposed province-wide telehealth system, increased home-care services and plans to strengthen CLSCs as local access points.
Fontaine said protecting French remains important while also recognizing the role of Richmond’s English-speaking community.
He also expressed support for stronger government advertising allocations to local and community media, noting that his own campaign is directing its local advertising budget to local outlets.
