Former Magog Cantonniers Player Jacob Dion Signs with Laval Rocket

MAGOG, September 4th 2026 – For Jacob Dion, the call from the Montreal Canadiens organization came when he least expected it.

The former Magog Cantonniers defenseman was at home playing Xbox when he checked his email and discovered a message from someone within the Canadiens organization asking about his hotel plans and mileage to Brossard. It quickly became clear that he had been invited to the Canadiens’ main training camp.

For Dion, the opportunity represents another milestone in a hockey journey that has not followed a traditional path. After going undrafted, he continued developing through university hockey and the ECHL, eventually earning an opportunity with the Laval Rocket.

Dion played five games with Laval last season, his first experience in the American Hockey League. He said the games gave him confidence and showed him he could compete and make plays at that level.

Now, with a new two-way contract and an invitation to Canadiens camp, Dion is looking to prove he can become a reliable defenseman who can contribute in different situations.

His goal is clear: earn a full-time spot with the Rocket and continue working toward the NHL.
